🚨 Event URLs Not Sending from iOS iMessage to Android Devices over SMS and RCS! Here's Why 🚨
Why it matters: Our web app URL used to be https://caughtup.web.app. This domain, "web.app," is a Google Cloud website where developers can quickly host websites and web applications.
So, here's the scoop! We noticed that sharing an event URL from iMessage to Android messages was not getting through. It seemed like iMessage packages the URL (they separate it from the body message and package it as a standalone message with a URL preview) and sent it to carriers like Verizon and AT&T. These carriers perform additional processing, which blocked the web.app domain from being sent as an SMS. And what's crazy is that there are no signs the message wasn't sent! No logs, no errors, no nothing! 😱
After some detective work, we found that the web.app domain was being blocked by the carriers. Our guess is that other developers have used the domain for malicious purposes. 🕵️♂️
Want to dive deeper? Check out this Reddit thread where people mention some websites not working because of carriers: Reddit - SMS with URLs are not being sent. It's interesting how sometimes Reddit and other forum platforms are where you can get the most useful info. 🧐
The good news? We've updated our web app URL to our own domain https://web.caughtup.app (caughtup.app is our domain and "web" is the subdomain we use now), and we are now able to deliver our web app URLs to users on iMessage. 🎉
Added App Rater Prompt for Active Users
Why it matters: Encouraging user feedback is crucial for app improvement. If users say they had a good experience, we ask them to leave us a review on the store. If not, we ask them to give us feedback on our website.
With the addition, users can easily share their experience and help improve the app. Once an app gets bad reviews, it can be tough for it to succeed in the app store. Negative reviews can deter potential users, making it harder for the app to gain traction. To counter this, app developers often encourage active users who are likely to give positive feedback to leave reviews. This helps balance out the negative ones and improve the app's overall rating.
Additionally, people who have a good experience with an app don't usually rate it. However, if they have a bad experience and want to vent, they are more likely to write a negative review. This can skew the app's ratings and make it appear worse than it actually is. 😬
These updates make the app more intuitive, reliable, and user-friendly. Enjoy the enhanced experience! 🎉
